Cant anybody see that Lou Castel delivers the best character performance of the "ugly american" with the exception of Marlon Brando. What more can he do? He's subtle , calculating, very proud of his "superior" race, smart, coldhearted to fault, and make all this seem real without appearing too self confident as he reveals that apparently he doesnt have himself as much in control as most "cool" stars are want to do.

Thanks so much for the nice comments about my write-up for A Bullet For the General Jeremy! I've always wanted to write about the movie and the new dvd release gave me an excuse to babble about it. If you own the previous Anchor Bay dvd of the movie you might want to pass on the new one since it's the same print and dosen't include any new extras, but if you don't it's a good time to pick it up.

Very impressive and detailed review to a really great film. This is one of my favorite Euro westerns also. For years I just had this horrible full screen imported video that was a pain to watch so the dvd release was a blessing. I haven't picked up Blue Underground's re-release yet but this excellent commentary on the film makes me want to.
Thanks for posting and for all the obvious time you put into this.
