Hey Kimberly. Great write-up. I’ve only seen this film once. I thought it was definitely an interesting take on the story of Frankenstein. I’m a big fan of Franco. Even with its flaws, this film is pretty good. I do think it could have been better if certain things had fallen into play. I agree that much of the cast doesn’t seem that much into it. Hope you have a great weekend.

Thanks Keith! Glad you enjoyed my brief look at Franco’s The Rites of Frankenstein and I hope you have a terrific weekend as well.

My oh my,Kimberly, those screencaps look gorgeous, if only both my beyond awful spanish dvd and badly cropped german dvd would look half good… though i am more inclined towards my preference for Dracula contra Frankenstein, this follow-up contains enough proof of the demented genius of Franco, Jesus that is. Peace and love.

The movie is a treat for the eyes and ears, which is why I enjoy it so much. I’m a sucker for captivating visuals. Plot, character development, etc. be damned! Just having Frankenstein painted silver made the film more compelling to me than Dracula contra Frankenstein, but overall I just think it’s a more imaginative film than its predecessor. Thanks for your feedback, Sergio! I always appreciate hearing from other Franco fans.

Surely that silver painting is a winner, and i understand why you place Erotic Rites above its companion. It is a more ambitious project in both visual and aural design. Nonetheless, having been exposed to Dracula contra Frankenstein in a huge theater when i was barely 10 years old left a huge impression on my mind; rewatching it many years later, those 15-something opening minutes in the mute made me feel re-captivated.
Peace and love. And a big thank you for your blog and your shared knowledge.

You had me after Franco and Vernon. Great write-up as always. It sounds like a pretty typical JF film so that means I would love it.

    *Adds to “TO BUY” list*

I definitely prefer the Erotic Rites version, and even prefer that it doesn’t include the pointless inserts of Romay. This is definitely a favorite of mine, though!
