What a badass! You know, I’ve never seen Black Rain or any of Matsuda’s other films. I was going strong with my Asian cinema a few years ago and, I don’t know what happened, I dropped it. What a tragic story, though.

I wish I’d been there when you were yelling at the TV, though.

He is a SUPER badass! I think you’d find worthwhile elements in Resurrection of the Golden Wolf so you should give it a look. The premise sounded so damn good that my expectations were incredibly high going into it so I’m sure that colored my view a bit, but with another director and editor the movie could have been amazing.

Lately I’ve been really chatty when I watch a movie that I’m not 100% into. I’m starting to annoy myself.

I had no idea Yusaku Matsuda was Ryuhei Matsuda’s father. Now it seems so obvious! Great post!

    Hello :)
    I’m french, painter artist.
I’m fan of Yusaku Matsuda since i saw Black Rain (excellent movie!). Little by little i bought these movies, TV series, books and CD albums with some japanese website like amazon japan, CD Japan…he had a lot of talent, sensitivity, a passion for the cinema, a real charisma and very impressive. Its really my favorite actor, with the time he is became naturally a source of inspiration for me in painting, i realized several paintings about him like a tribute, portraits or scene at different period of his life. I think maybe you will like discover my work, the paintings about Yusaku Matsuda are in the part “Source d’inspiration japonaise” : http://web.mac.com/joelcharat

    and my page myspace: http://www.myspace.com/liliroserain

I wish you a good day,

Hi Delphine! Thanks for sharing your deep interest in Yusaku Matsuda with me. I enjoyed checking out your gallery and the paintings of Matsuda you created were very striking. It’s wonderful that films can inspire us all in so many varied ways.
