Keith - Glad to hear from someone else who enjoyed the film. I love Louis, but I’ve only seen Ludvine in a couple other films such as The Swimming Pool and Cyrano de Bergerac (where she was just a child). I really want to see A Girl Cut in Two. If you have any other suggestions for worthwhile films she’s been in, please feel free to share them!

Thanks for the comment, Pat. It’s a film I can watch again and again for one reason or another. Of course one of those reasons is Louis Garrel… He’s incredible!

I saw this after it was recommended by Andrew O’Hehir at Salon, and found it charming. It was the first time I’d seen both Louis Garrel and Ludivine Sagnier, though I’ve since become an admirer of both actors. Your post makes me want to watch it again.

Peter - I haven’t seen Jeanne and the Perfect Guy, Ma Mere or Three Dancing Slaves, but now I’m curious about all three. Especially Ma Mere since I really like Honore and Garrel. I’ve read a lot of mixed things about it so I’ve sort of put it off, but I should give it a look soon. I also read something somewhere about Jeanne and the Perfect Guy (maybe from Andrew O’Hehir at Salon?) and it made me curious about the movie. If you recommend it too I’ll move it higher up on my “must see” list as well.

I was wondering if you had seen Jeanne and the Perfect Guy, the 1998 homage of sorts to Jacques Demy, starring his son Mathieu? I've seen Ma Mere which got quite challenging to watch at times, plus Three Dancing Slaves which Honore cowrote. Love Songs and Dans Paris are crawling up my always full Netflix queue.

I highly recommend both Dans Paris and Love Songs, Rick. If you have reservations about watching a musical it might be better to start with Dans Paris, which includes a minor musical bit in it. If you watched the video clip you’ll notice a quote by Film Comment’s Mark Olsen where he said that “Christophe Honore’s films aren’t just films you like - you develop weird little crushes on them.” And that’s been true for me.
